One of the greatest rom-coms of all time, THE APARTMENT (1960) is a breezy and uproarious delight from start to finish. Ambitious insurance clerk C.C. "Buddy Boy" Baxter (Jack Lemmon) ingratiates himself to his superiors by allowing them to conduct their extramarital affairs in his New York apartment. He soon becomes entangled in a love triangle after he falls for elevator operator Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), who is having a tumultuous affair with the Baxter’s boss Jeff Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray). A razor-sharp script featuring director Billy Wilder’s trademark combination of cynicism, comedy, and romance is buoyed by the effortless charm and palpable chemistry of the leads. Awarded the Oscar for Best Picture, THE APARTMENT is a true Hollywood classic.
