A culture of creativity, past, present, and future

Tantramar has a stellar reputation in arts, culture, and heritage. With deep historical roots and its thriving modern arts scene, creativity has always been part of the fabric of this community.

Tantramar takes art seriously

Tantramar is alive with creative energy. The Mount Allison University Owens Art Gallery, the oldest university gallery in Canada, anchors an eclectic arts community alongside Struts Gallery, an artist-run centre dedicated to exceptional contemporary art. Since opening in 1980, Struts has become a hub for exhibitions, residencies, screenings, workshops, talks, and performances. With Faucet Media, the centre also nurtures media art by offering training, facilities, and specialized equipment.

This creative spirit reaches far beyond gallery walls. In Tantramar, art lives in our streets, studios, festivals, and landscapes—woven into the fabric of everyday life.

History preserved, stories told

Heritage is a living part of Tantramar’s identity. With three heritage museums, including Canada’s only intact carriage factory still on its original site, the past is carefully preserved and shared. The region’s history spans New Brunswick’s earliest days, from agricultural traditions and industrial innovation to the rise of academic and tech-driven industries.

Tantramar loves to perform

Tantramar loves to perform. The community alive with music, theatre, and live performance, filling spaces both big and small. From packed concert halls and grassroots community stages to poetry nights hosted by the Poet Laureate, creativity is always valued and celebrated. Mount Allison University’s world-class music program brings professional excellence, while local theatre and outdoor performances under the stars showcase homegrown talent.

At the heart of it all is Sappyfest, one of Canada’s most beloved independent music festivals, which transforms the region each summer into a stage for discovery and celebration.

Celebrating talent, past and present

Tantramar produces impressive talent and we’re always proud to say, “they started here”. Tantramar has nurtured Juno award-winning artists, Olympic athletes, and celebrated Playwrights. Our Arts Wall of Fame and Sports Wall of Fame honour those who’ve made a significant impact in their field, while also making room for the next generation.

Culture that’s alive, every day

With performances, exhibitions, and events happening almost every night of the week, the opportunities to engage with arts and culture in Tantramar are second to none. There’s always something happening, and you’re always invited.
