Tantramar Council meets twice a month, and all Regular Council meetings and Committee of the Whole meetings are open to the public. We encourage you to attend, engage, and stay informed about the decisions shaping our community. View the 2025 Council Meeting Dates to join us at the Municipal Office. Archived meeting minutes are also available.

Regular Council Meetings

The regular monthly council meeting takes place on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Office Council Chambers (31C Main Street). These public meetings are where council conducts official business, discusses community matters, and makes decisions.

Members of the public are welcome to present to council. Those wishing to speak are asked to submit a written request to the Clerk’s Office at least seven (7) days before the meeting for a five-minute presentation, subject to availability. If you haven’t pre-registered but would like to speak, you may register with the Clerk’s Office before the meeting’s agenda is approved for a two-minute presentation. Tantramar will make every effort to accommodate requests in a timely manner.

Committee of the Whole

Committee of the Whole meetings take place on the fourth Monday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the Municipal Office Council Chambers. These public meetings serve as informational sessions where council receives presentations from staff on various topics. No decisions are typically made at this stage, allowing councillors time to reflect and gather further information before making informed decisions at a later regular council meeting.

Special meetings

From time to time, special meetings may be scheduled to address urgent matters requiring immediate attention. With the exception of emergency meetings, all special meetings are advertised in advance on the municipal website and social media channels. Unless otherwise noted, these meetings are held at the Municipal Office Council Chambers.

In-camera meetings

Under the Local Governance Act (subsections 68 (1), (2), and (3)), Tantramar Council may hold in-camera meetings (closed sessions) to discuss confidential matters, including legal issues, human resources, property transactions, and third-party agreements. While Council may go in-camera during any meeting, no decisions can be made in these sessions—formal decisions must occur in a public meeting.
