Debbie Wiggins-Colwell Mayor

Debbie Wiggins-Colwell proudly serves as Mayor of the Municipality of Tantramar. A lifelong resident of the Tantramar region, she has deep roots in both Sackville and Dorchester, and a long history of community involvement. She raised her family of three while building a strong record of community leadership focused on enhancing quality of life, supporting local businesses, and strengthening civic engagement. She owned and operated two local businesses for more than 40 years and was an early advocate for autism awareness, serving on several boards in the 1980s.

Mayor Wiggins-Colwell brings a strong commitment to community, collaboration, and sustainable growth. She was the Ward 1 (Dorchester and Area) member of the first Tantramar council and, more recently, Deputy Mayor. She previously made history as the first female mayor of the Village of Dorchester. She is also a veteran of a 2009 Tour of Duty in Afghanistan as a combat barber and a recipient of the Molly Kool Award for her outstanding community contributions. An avid outdoor enthusiast, she enjoys exploring local trails, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

As Mayor, Mayor Wiggins-Colwell is passionate about open, transparent governance and values ongoing dialogue with residents. She believes strong communities are built through collaboration and actively encourages citizens to participate in shaping the future of Tantramar. She is dedicated to building a vibrant, inclusive municipality that balances economic development with environmental stewardship. Her priorities include responsible infrastructure planning, strengthening regional partnerships, and ensuring Tantramar remains a welcoming place to live, work, and visit.
