What: Protest When: 12:30 pm, March 27th (start gathering 12:00-12:20) Where: Gather outside the Mount Allison library (42 York Street) Route: Walk across campus to the administration building Students are holding a protest at Mount Allison on March 27th at 12:30 related to the freezing of university budgets and broader issues of equity in our education system and the investments our universities have in unjust industries from weapons manufacturing to companies complicit in the genocide in Palestine and other places, fossil fuels, and more. Inspired by peers in Nova Scotia, we are starting to build capacity for student strikes in New Brunswick and this will be the start of that. This is a non-violent action and masking is encouraged due to the close proximity of people during the march. Demands: Affordable tuition (demand of the government): Increased funding to higher education to allow for standardization of international and domestic tuition, ending the discriminatory practice of making international students pay more than double domestic tuition and an overall 20% reduction in tuition, at minimum. Divestment (demand of Mount Allison): We demand that our universities divest from weapons manufacturing, fossil fuel extraction, entities complicit in genocide and crimes against humanity in Palestine, Sudan, Haiti, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and elsewhere, entities profiting from resource extraction on Indigenous lands without the full informed consent of the Indigenous people(s) with ancestral ties to those lands or entities otherwise violating treaty rights.
