1947–1949 Midgic Tug of War Team

Team Category: Tug of War
Inducted June 2, 1990

The Midgic Tug of War Team was formed in 1947 and won the Maritime Championships in ’47, ’48 and ’49, coming back again in 1953 to win the championships for another three consecutive years.

Russell George was coach of the Midgic team. Practice was held at the old Roy Hicks place in Midgic. An old coal box was used at the round house and block pullies were used to practice with.

In those days, all pulls had twenty minute time limits. Midgic’s longest pull was with the strong team of Gaspereaux for about 13 minutes in 1947.
