RE: Sackville Fire & Rescue Investigation Update

On January 16, 2026, the municipality of Tantramar retained the independent investigatory services of VanBuskirk Law, Saint John to conduct a Workplace Investigation of Sackville Fire & Rescue into any alleged breaches of Tantramar’s Workplace Harassment and Violence Policy No. 2024-10.

The Investigation scope included interviewing thirty-one (31) members of the Sackville Fire & Rescue and investigating:

(a) Any alleged violation of the Workplace Harassment and Violence Policy, whether in writing or verbal, including allegations related to harassment, workplace toxicity, poisoned work environment, psychologically unsafe environment, etc.;

(b) Any allegations of favouritism;

(c) Any allegations related to a failure of leadership;

(d) Any alleged inappropriate behaviour that may or may not amount to harassment; and

(e) An overall conclusion as to the assessment of the workplace culture

Late Wednesday, May 13, 2026, external legal counsel for the municipality of Tantramar, Cox & Palmer, provided the Investigation Report to the municipality of Tantramar. Administration is currently in the process of reviewing this Report in consultation with Legal Counsel to determine next steps. Next steps will be reviewed with new incoming Council once they are sworn in.

“While determining next steps after delivery of the Investigation, our priority is maintaining the continued delivery of safe, reliable fire protection to our residents of Tantramar” said Chief Administrative Officer, Jennifer Borne.

Due to personnel privacy considerations, the municipality will not be providing additional comment at this time.

Residents can be assured that fire protection services will continue without interruption.
