Delanor R. Wheaton
Born in Midgic, NB, on July 23, 1933, Delanor (Del) Wheaton started playing guitar when he was eight years old and has been sharing his love of music with others ever since. A multi-talented performer, he soon mastered guitar, harmonica, bass, mandolin, fiddle, and clarinet as well, becoming a valued member of a succession of local country bands such as the Midgic Pioneers,
the Golden Valley Boys, the Marshwinds, Rustic Harmony, and Diamonds in the Rough. For many years he toured Canada and the eastern United States, playing and recording with Ivan Hicks and Maritime Express. During that time Del and Tom Johnson evolved a comedy act “The Grubb Brothers” which became a regular highlight of the band’s concerts. In addition, he was a member of the Sackville Citizens’ Band and performed with the band of the 8th Canadian Hussars for more than 30 years.
Del’s lifelong dedication to music and to community has been acknowledged by many awards. He has been honoured as Citizen of the Year by Sackville, his hometown for many years, and in 2005 he was inducted as a member of the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame.
