George Lawrence was born in Milton, Mass but spent most of his adult life in Sackville, employed with CN, before his passing in 1980 at the age of 81.
Lawrence reached the peak of his career in 1939 when he was chosen to serve on Canada’s Bisley Team in international competition. This signified he was one of the top 18 marksmen in the country. His list of accomplishments in shooting is a lengthy one which includes the NB Rifle Association gold medal in 1948, 1951, 1965 and 1967 and the Governor General’s medal during his 45 year career on the ranges.
Lawrence was also outstanding in other sports, catching for senior baseball teams from 1920 to 1928 and first performed and then coached tug of war teams.
