Born in Quebec and raised in Nappan, N.S., the late R.J. (Bert) Robertson chose Sackville as his home. He arrived in 1930 and for the next 35 years left an indelible mark on the community.
Bert set to the task of creating organized recreation in the community, developing the Community Field where baseball and softball could be played. He also developed softball teams for three years between 1930 and 1932. Bert then turned his attention to baseball and for nine consecutive years managed and coached baseball teams at both the junior and intermediate levels. So successful was his work in baseball that he took a team to the Maritime finals in 1933.
