Robert (Bob) Avon Edgett

Athlete Category: Boxing
Inducted May 27, 1989

Sheer grit and determination carried Bob Edgett to amateur boxing championships in Maine, Montreal, Central Ontario and the Canadian Navy but his proudest accomplishments have come as builder, coach and counsel for 6,000 young men spanning a 36-year career. Cold statistics do not tell the full story. Bob produced 18 Canadian amateur champions and hundreds of Maritime champions. Three of his protégés — Mark Adams, Les Sprague and Eave Hilton — went on to win Canadian professional titles. His record earned him national recognition as coach of the Canadian, Provincial and Atlantic boxing teams. And he was inducted into the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame, the Rochester, NY and Moncton Sports Wall of Fame and the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame.
