Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre is in the running for Kraft Hockeyville
The Tantramar Civic Centre has been entered into Kraft Hockeyville, a national program that celebrates community arenas and awards $250,000 for facility improvements to the top community in Canada.
This is a chance to shine a spotlight on a rink that means so much to countless people across Tantramar. Kraft Hockeyville recognizes communities that show up for their arena and rally behind it by sharing stories and public support.
Hockey is a big part of life here in Tantramar. The Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre is home to two high school teams, Mount Allison University’s women’s hockey team, and 16 minor hockey teams, including three all-girls teams. With subsidized ice time from the Municipality, minor hockey participation has grown from about 175 players a few years ago to more than 200 today. The arena also hosts seven tournament weekends each year and offers spring hockey through mid-May.
If Tantramar advances, the funding would support accessibility improvements at the Civic Centre, including an elevator, improved spectator seating for seniors and people with mobility challenges, and a second wheelchair viewing area.
