    Waterfowl Park Artist-in-Residence, and Emerging Artist-in-Residence - Call for Proposals for 2026 – Deadline March 27, 2026

The Municipality of Tantramar will be accepting proposals for an artist residency, and an emerging artist residency, in the Sackville Waterfowl Park, and/or adjacent Visitor Information Centre, until Friday, March 27. The Artist-in-Residence can be of any age and at any stage in their artistic career. The Emerging Artist-in-Residence is restricted to artists 18 years old and younger.

Residency length can vary, but the proposed length of the residency should be included in the Artist’s proposal, and it should not begin before June 1 and must end by September 30, 2026.

    Proposal Requirements

    1. A plan for work in the Waterfowl Park (and/or the adjacent Visitor Information Centre) which should include an aspect that will be of interest to the general public, and a hands-on/workshop aspect that will be of interest to younger people.
    2. A proposed date to host an open-house to allow the public to view the work in progress and to see the artist at work (or alternately to converse with the artist).
    3. A proposed date to host an event for young people. It is possible the two aspects (open house and event for young people) could be achieved in the same event.
    4. A proposed date for an unveiling of the work (or work in progress) with an artist’s talk and a reception.
    5. Artists should also indicate how they will assist in the promotion of their project and any activities or events related to it.

Should it be of use, a limited portion of the Visitor Information Centre could be available as a working space during regular business hours during the residence period. As the Centre houses the Sackville Craft Gallery and Café Tintamarre, and will be open to tourists and other seeking information, any work would have to have minimal noise and no dust or similar waste products.

Selection criteria will include: past experience; the ability to carry out the project; appeal to a general audience and possibilities for interaction with the public; the perceived interest of the proposed event for young people; and artistic interest of the project.

The chosen Waterfowl Park Artist-in-Residence will receive an honorarium of $2500 and there will be $500 available for materials or expenses. The Emerging Artist-in-Residence will receive an honorarium of $750, and there will be $250 available for material expenses.

Proposals should include photos of samples of the artist’s work and supporting documents and should be deposited at the Tantramar Municipal Building by Friday, March 27 at 4:30 pm. to the attention of Ron Kelly Spurles, or sent via email to r.kellyspurles@TantramarNB.com. Further information can also be provided at this email address. All work must be completed by September 30, 2026.
