    William Thomas Harris

    Athlete Category: Baseball
    Inducted May 27, 1989

William (Billy) Harris, who was born in Duguayville but who resided in Marysville and Dorchester, played his minor and senior hockey in Sackville and junior and senior baseball in Dieppe and Moncton before turning pro in 1951 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He went on to establish pitching marks that stand until today and is the first New Brunswicker to have thrown seriously in the majors. In the 1956 season he dropped a 3–2 decision to the Chicago Cubs and the tough Jack Sanford but went eight innings before coming out. And a year later he threw five innings of relief for the Dodgers in an era when few made it to the top.
