Tantramar is home to several military memorials and has a long history with the military, most notably the namesake of the Second World War corvette HMCS Sackville. The municipality features a Cenotaph in Memorial Park and the Dorchester Square, commemorates the connection to HMCS Sackville, has installed memorial crosswalks, operates the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre, and honors designer of the Canadian flag, George Stanley, with a sculpture in the heart of downtown Sackville.

The 8th Canadian Hussars, a reserve armoured regiment, also had close relationship with the town for many years.  That relationship is recognized through the installation of a Ferret Scout Car in Memorial Park.

To continue the long tradition of recognizing and honouring our Veterans, Tantramar is proud to support the Veterans Banner Program.  The program honours local Veterans through installing street pole banners in their name.  The municipality installs the banners in Sackville and Dorchester in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, and the remain in place until shortly after Remembrance Day.

If you are interested in purchasing a banner, please contact the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26 Sackville at 506-364-9900 and they will point you in the right direction.
