Solid in all positions with outstanding coaching, clutch goal-tending, a quick and mobile defense and a scoring machine up front, the well-managed 1971 Sackville Combines gave their many followers plenty to cheer about. With a season record of 29 wins against just eight defeats, they easily marched through the Central League and to the Maritime Intermediate “C” hockey championship.
The Combines, first formed in 1970, added provincial championships in 1972 and 1976 before retiring from active competition. The one Maritime championship won in 1971 is believed to be the only one of its kind ever to come to this community.
