“The Father of Modern Basketball in Sackville,” Wayne MacKay brought his love of the game from Truro and Mount Allison University to his community. He single-handedly founded the first minor program on the outdoor courts which ultimately led to the formation of the Sackville Basketball Boosters’ Association (SBBA). He devoted more than 20 years of his life to coaching, managing and administering programs from mini to senior and many of this students have gone on to star at the university level. His record includes numerous provincial championships as well as a few Atlantic titles. Not only has Wayne MacKay developed basketball talent but has offered hundreds of young men a chance to mature in a healthy environment, learning to play the game in a proper manner.
