Report Illegal Dumping
On this page:
Illegal dumping refers to the unauthorized disposal of waste materials on public or private property. This includes leaving garbage in wooded areas, along roadsides, or on vacant lots without proper permission.
Impact on our community
Illegal dumping poses significant threats to Tantramar’s environment and residents.
- Environmental hazards—Dumped waste can contaminate soil and water sources, harming local ecosystems.
- Public health risks—Accumulated waste attracts pests and can be a breeding ground for disease.
- Economic costs—Cleaning up illegal dumpsites diverts municipal resources and increases public spending.
- Aesthetic degradation—Unsightly waste negatively affects the natural beauty of our community.
Legal consequences
Tantramar enforces strict penalties for illegal dumping. Convicted individuals may face fines ranging from $500 to $1,000,000, depending on the severity of the offence. These measures are in place to deter such activities and protect our environment.

When reporting, provide detailed information about the location, type of waste, and any identifying details about the individuals involved, if known. If you witness or discover an illegal dumpsite, contact the Department of Environment and Local Government at elg/egl-info@gnb.ca.
