In Tantramar, winter means one thing: it’s time to skate! It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned hockey player, a figure skating enthusiast, or just someone who loves a good glide on a frozen pond—our region offers a wide variety of opportunities to get out on the ice.

Lace up and hit the ice

At the heart of our skating community is the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre in Sackville. This full-size arena is home to local minor hockey and figure skating clubs, and also hosts public skating, recreational hockey leagues, and special events throughout the season. Mount Allison University’s varsity and club teams also make use of the arena.

For kids and families, the Sackville Minor Hockey Association and the Sackville Skating Club offer learn-to-play programs, development leagues, and figure skating instruction. These organizations are great places to build skills, make friends, and enjoy the winter months.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a classic Canadian experience on our outdoor rink in Dorchester, which pops up each winter (weather permitting). Maintained by Tantramar staff, it’s a beloved gathering spot for casual shinny games or evening skates under the stars.

Looking a bit beyond the Tantramar borders, neighbouring communities such as Memramcook and Amherst also offer indoor ice facilities and skating opportunities that Tantramar residents often take advantage of.
