Honouring trees of ecological, cultural, and historical significance.
Tantramar is home to numerous landscapes and histories. Trees often play a role in helping to shape the memories or images related to these stories. Sometimes it is the species of tree, or its age, its size, or its shape. Sometimes its where the tree is located in Tantramar or how it played a role in our collective history or that it provides a beautiful backdrop. Trees provide essential services in both the natural environment and built environment and impact our lives in many ways.
Tantramar’s Terrific Trees program attempts to capture and honour these trees, or group of trees, within our municipality and share them with residents and visitors alike. Trees can be nominated through this program and will be recognized on our website.
Nominations can be submitted here: Tantramar's Terrific Trees Nomination Form
Once a nomination is received, staff will work with the nominator to clarify any information, visit the tree to confirm the details, and finally verify that the tree meets the program requirements. If a tree meets the criteria, information and photos will be provided through the map below. Individuals are encouraged to view the map and visit these trees to appreciate their role in our landscape.
We ask that you respect the trees and properties on which they are found. Some of these trees may be on private property so if you are visiting these ones, please visit the tree itself and not the rest of the property. Trees that are on private property remain the responsibility of the private landowner.
Each tree is mapped below and will include information related to the tree. Descriptions of what each piece of information means are:
