Tantramar is home to the beautiful freshwater beach at Lillas Fawcett Park on Silver Lake, a popular spot for swimming and summer fun. We take the safety of our residents and visitors seriously, which is why we employ four full-time lifeguards during the summer months and conduct weekly water quality testing to ensure it meets Health Canada’s Canadian Recreational Water Quality Guidelines for E. coli.
Each week, trained staff collect two water samples—one at hip depth (approximately 3 feet) and one at toddler depth (approximately 2 feet)—which are sent to an accredited laboratory in Moncton for analysis. To meet national safety standards, E. coli levels must remain below 400 E. coli/100mL of water.
Additionally, we monitor for Blue-Green Algae, particularly during warm weather when conditions are favourable for its growth. According to the World Health Organization, water containing fewer than 20,000 blue-green algae cells per millilitre (cells/mL) is considered safe for recreational use.
To keep residents and visitors informed, we post regular test results throughout the summer. You can find the latest water quality reports available for download on this page.
